  All-new SportSmart

Dunlop has always been at the forefront of motorcycle tyre development. We use our extensive racing experience to further improve the performance of our street tyres and many of the technologies we use in our motorcycle products are derived from the all-conquering Sportmax GP race tyre.

Our new SportSmart hypersport tyre utilises our critically-acclaimed Multi-Tread (MT) compound and NTEC technologies - both of which were developed on the race track. The new addition, which is ideal for both road and occasional track day use, strengthens our existing high-performance Sportmax range of tyres, which also includes the new GP Racer D211, Qualifier II and award-winning RoadSmart.

Key features

  • Superb on road, track or tour, the new SportSmart crossover performance tyre fulfils all needs
  • Delivering stunning wet performance for hypersport and Supersport motorcycles, the new SportSmart will provide the right level of confidence whatever the road conditions
  • NTEC construction acts as a mechanical grip booster at low inflation pressure for track days: standard pressure for road use, lower pressure for dry track day use
  • Multi-Tread layout front and rear is based on the highly successful D211 GP race tyre.

Race-quality grip in the dry. Total confidence in the wet. Wear rates that will never compromise sporting satisfaction. Put it all together and you've got an ultimate hypersport tyre. But for street and occasional track day riders, this ultimate combination of performance and longevity has never quite managed to make the jump from concept to reality. Until now, that is, with the release of the new Dunlop SportSmart.

By focusing all its road and motorsports experience into the SportSmart project, Dunlop has created a new benchmark of handling and confidence, irrespective of road conditions - dry racetrack or wet country lane. SportSmart will deliver its highest levels of performance while putting in the hard touring miles, too. Riders can expect noticeably more mileage from SportSmart than they would achieve with other hypersport tyres.

How has Dunlop achieved the mix that makes SportSmart so special? Through the intelligent application of three ground-breaking Dunlop technologies: Multi-Tread compound design, JointLess Belt (JLB) construction, and the race-bred NTEC pressure-adjust system. Developed from Dunlop's ultra-successful D211 GP race tyre, Multi-Tread blends durable rubber in the centre of the tread with a softer, more 'grippy' compound on the tyre shoulders for flowing, consistent cornering even at extreme lean angles. A special tread pattern with deeper central grooves improves performance in the wet, giving the SportSmart outstanding straight-line traction and consistently excellent all-weather handling characteristics.

Multi-Tread gives riders the confidence to enjoy high-level sports motorcycling on all roads and across a wide spectrum of climatic conditions.

SportSmart's JointLess Belt construction uses cord density engineering techniques to deliver more linear steering properties, richer feedback, and top-class high-speed stability. Additional benefits include supple shock absorption for enhanced riding comfort on longer rides.

NTEC provides a degree of 'tuneability' to please both road and track day riders. Simply by altering pressures within a specified range, SportSmart riders can maximise the available grip on road or track without compromising the all-important stiffness of the tyre. Regardless of whether the bike is flowing through a corner under a steady load or powering out of its exit, SportSmart's cornering stability at high speeds is measurably superior to that of non-NTEC tyres.

By putting all these technologies together in the SportSmart, Dunlop has produced an ideal rider's package of strong grip, reassuring stability and precise feedback. And of course the valuable bonus of slow wear rates.

During Independent testing performed by Dekra in January 2010 on a SUZUKI GSX-R 1000 (2009) on 120/70 ZR17 and 190/50 ZR17, the Dunlop SportSmart achieved 20% better mileage compared to Michelin Power Pure, 30% better mileage than Pirelli Diablo Rosso and 40% better mileage than Bridgestone Battlax BT-016.

The SportSmart is available in the following sizes:

120/60 ZR17
120/70 ZR17
160/60 ZR17
180/55 ZR17
190/50 ZR17
190/55 ZR17

The ultimate track day experience
We believe it's important for our dealers to practice what they preach, and we know that allowing them to test our tyres for themselves is the only way they can be confident of a product's performance.

Following the huge success of our Rockingham Race to Road event in 2007, we're rewarding some of our key dealers with the opportunity to come and spend the day with us at the Silverstone circuit and test two of our newest tyres on the track.

We've got lots of exciting activities planned including:

  • the chance to meet Dunlop’s highly successful Motorsport team and top motorcycle racing stars
  • time on the track to try our new Sportmax GP Racer D211 and SportSmart hypersport tyres
  • expert on and off-track tuition with the California Superbike School
  • innovative product awareness and training sessions...
  • ...and much more!

There are lots of other benefits to being one of Dunlop's key dealers. Contact your regional Dunlop sales representative for more information.

  Racing round-up

We use our racing experience to develop and improve the performance of our street tyres. This year, we're supporting a number of grassroots and one-make series at home and globally including the Suzuki GSXR Trophy and Harley-Davidson XR1200 Trophy and the prestigious Moto2 Championship.

Moto2
With just a few weeks until the start of the season, excitement is starting to build-up for the Moto2 Championship kick-off in April. Forty riders, including former 125cc Champion Thomas Luthi, 250cc star Toni Elias and Britain's own Scott Redding, are confirmed to make up the starting grid in what is going to be one of the most exciting race series on 2010.

As the exclusive tyre supplier to the championship, Dunlop engineers and fitters were working hard with the teams at the first official Moto2 test in Valencia on 1-3 March. This was the first opportunity for the teams to run the Dunlop race tyres with the tuned Honda 600cc Moto2 engines - the standard across the class.

Ducati 848 Challenge
The 2010 Ducati 848 Challenge is held over eight events, including two British Superbike Championship rounds and two overseas rounds at Misano and Assen. The one-make series, features Ducati's stunning 848 Superbike and all entrants use the Dunlop GP Racer D211 as the control tyre.

In addition, Dunlop is supporting the 2010 No Budget Cup (NBC), which is designed to bridge the gap between a track day and a more expensive race series. It encourages riders to try something that they may not previously have been able to afford and NBC competitors are predominantly grassroots-level riders, who benefit from a less intimidating environment.

  Dunlop in the news

We're continually working hard to secure exposure for Dunlop motorcycle tyres in the media.

As well as sending our tyres to magazines for product tests and reviews, we achieve coverage in publications such as RiDE, Bike and MCN in much more subtle ways. This month, our tyres were used on bikes in a multiple-page touring feature in RiDE magazine. Dunlop was also featured in Fast Bikes, Trials and Motocross News and Classic Bike as well as numerous regional newspapers and websites.

However, obtaining Dunlop-related coverage isn't just about sending free products out to journalists for testing. We work hard all year to ensure that we achieve consistent coverage every month through general product news, proactive features and racing round-ups. Magazines have an important role in educating motorcyclists about our products, and Dunlop cuttings taken from magazines and displayed in your stores could help customers to make an informed decision about which tyres they buy.

  Dealer news

Last month, we launched our pioneering new dealer marketing service. So far, we've helped some of our key dealers in their wider marketing activities in order to encourage footfall into their stores and help to drive more sales of Dunlop motorcycle products.

As one of Dunlop Motorcycle Tyres UK's key dealers, we can help support you in your regional PR and online activities. What's more, this service is completely FREE to you!

Website assistance
Your website is a vital marketing tool for your business. It is often the first port of call for potential customers and is important in creating the right first impression. If your website isn't kept up-to-date and a potential customer checks out your website before deciding to visit your store, it might mean that he/she goes elsewhere for their new set of tyres...

If your website features Dunlop-related product information, it is imperative that the information is correct and accurate. Does your website feature the latest Dunlop tyre fitments? Are you using the correct Dunlop logo? If you're unsure, don't worry as we can help!

We've got tons of Dunlop-specific information, logos and images that we can send you, free of charge, to use on your website. We can also send you regular news stories to keep your website current and interesting. If you've got a website, why not make the best impression you can by keeping your online presence up to date and encouraging people to visit your store?

For more information about this service or to request images, logos and product information for your website, please contact our Dealer Marketing Service Team.

  Support

As predicted, 2010 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Dunlop. We've just launched two brand new products - the SportSmart and GP Racer D211 hypersport tyres - which we're heavily supporting with lots of wider marketing activities, including advertising, advertorials and Point of Sale (POS).

Advertising
You may already have seen two of our newest ads, in monthly motorcycle publications Bike and Fast Bikes. These publications are targeted at two-wheel enthusiasts and have a combined circulation of more than 105,000. That's a lot of readers, so be prepared for lots of enquiries about the new GP Racer D211!

Our busy advertising schedule also includes RiDE, PB, Superbike and MCN as well as several two-wheel websites. And, in addition to our consumer magazine advertising, we'll be appearing in various trade publications and catalogues too. Keep your eyes peeled and contact us if you'd like us to send you electronic versions of the ads to display on your websites and in your stores.

POS
We'll soon be distributing our 2010 fitment guides and leaflets. Please let us know if you don't receive your copies, or if you would like to request additional copies for your store. We're also working on some brand new eye-catching POS displays, including free-standing and ceiling-hanging versions, so watch this space...
